Barcelona, a photo a day

Cable car to the beach!

Following yesterday’s posting, I had a question about the tower you can see on the photo. This is actually, and litterally, the cable car to the beach. It goes from/to Montjuic |Castle to/from the port and the Barceloneta beach. Much faster than taking several buses and metros. Convenient, but not cheap.
On the right hand side of today’s photo, you can see a small part of a second tower, just above the World Trade Center, the round building. And just underneath the biggest cable car, the Maremagnum shopping center, complete with restaurants, one of the biggest aquariums in Europe, 2 cinemas, one of them an IMAX cinema.

  1. I loved the cable car ride when I was there in July – my second in one day as we went to Montjuic Castell on the Teleferic – got a discount on both with the Bus Turistic discount booklet, which saves a lot over the two days on entry fees – def. worthwhile if someone is on a short city break like I was-I spent two days in Barcelona with a friend and her girls and my teenager, and we saw lots (see my blogpost for details – Barcelona and Bus Turistic will get you there). A lovely blog, great to have the dedication to post daily!

  4. Interesting. I only have a short walk to the beach so this seems really odd to me. There again everything is only a short walk on an island.

  7. Hi there, thanks for your visit in Avignon.
Nice to see a Frenchman in Barcelona, being a tourist at heart gives an interesting perspective on a city. I loved your green parrots shot, I had no idea Barcelona had any (are they native to the area?). I enjoyed the Perpignan water feature photo too (and the fact that what you miss about France is quince paste, paté and crème de cassis :-)) – et le vin bien sûr, mais il y a du vin espagnol, non ? Est-il moins bon?

  9. I never did get to ride in the cable car, but I loved the beach! It was about 40C in the middle of July and we needed to cool off after a day of sightseeing. Thanks for bringing back the memories!
