250th post: Names and dolls
My name is Robert. I was named after my godfather, to honor him.
People in many countries do this, nothing new here.
But in Spain and Portugal, it is a bit extreme :you honor not only your godfather, but also other relatives, and saints. Which makes very long names. One of our favorite french actors, Jean Reno, was actually called Don Juan Moreno y Herrera Jiménez by his parents. He is a kind of Don Juan for sure!
Which brings me very nicely to this guy you all know of. I suppose his mum called him Pablito, little Paul. Well, get a drink, have a seat, because here is little Paul’s real name:
Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso.
More commonly known as Pablo Picasso.
There are probably millions of books and websites you can dive in if you want to know more. But I guess you wont see this picture very often… Yes, you can have your very own Picasso doll!!!

I wonder what Picasso would have said had he known there'd be a doll named after him? I remember reading about the Spanish family names and how when a lady marries, she never loses her maiden name.

In Denmark it's no longer customary to give children their grandparents' first names. In return, the surnames of both parents, and divorce and subsequent re-marriage is often enough to add a name or two, why the children in their own adulthood, already have 4-5 surnames 😉

Hi,
It's my first visit from here. I am CDP blogger who will start her second blog by the next month.I live in Mashhad, Iran.
As well as I am architect, I wrote an article for a conference in Spain that will be held on April 2010. Last night they contacted me and said my paper is accepted! The conference Eco-Architecture 2010 will be in La Coruña. This is just GREAT for me to visit Spain! I tried to find some information about the city but I knew that there is no CDP blog from La Coruña.
If you can give me help just make a feed back on my CDP blog.

Over here most children receive the name of their grandfathers/mothers, that's why there are so many people around with the same name.
As rare as Robert is probably here in Greece, are the entries of your site – much able to remain in ones mind and worth to see again.

Luckily his name was summarised to facilitate easy rememberance. I can imagine what a nightmare it will be when filling up computerised forms. The header here is very beautiful. Congratulations on your 250th post! May you have many many more!
