Barcelona, a photo a day

The weaver

Occasionally, not early as often as we would like, we come across some more traditional markets and fairs.
This guy was weaving (and selling) baskets. He was teaching some kids, and they seemed totally enthralled by his art.Nice gentle and patient face too.

  2. Weaving baskets has been very popular the last years here in Denmark; some sort of a trend 😉

  5. Teaching can try the patience. I think it's wonderful he's passing along his knowledge.

  6. So glad to see this picture of your, as he does look much more happy than the weaver I came across a couple of days ago.
A wonderful Tuesday for you all.

p.s.: on a different note, am as well very happy, as your site does “open up” much faster than yesterday, whatever you did, well done 🙂

  7. VP

Beautiful portrait. I forgot the last time I saw someone weaving baskets. Probably in rural Tuscany at least thirty years ago…

  8. Over here in American in the state where we live, in Ohio, a few years ago (maybe ten or more) my entire family were weaving baskets. Most stores sold kits or materials to make them so we did. I am not able to tell you how many we made but I can say that nobody can actually find a single basket to show or take a picture of. It must have been a fad or a hobby that people got tired of. Your photograph is nice because it shows someone who does that and is able to draw a crowd in interested people.

  9. I have a photo of a Swedish basket maker somewhere, it's the only one I have ever met. Not a popular handicraft these days I guess.

  10. Fascinating! I would think patience would be very important in this kind of work.
