Barcelona, a photo a day

Los vigilantes de la playa

The first gouvernor of California, Don Gaspar de Portola, was from Catalunya.
Like in California, we do have our own kind of Baywatch here, and they are dressed in red as well. During the hot season, their red swimsuits are as skimpy as in the TV series.
They must have been very bored, as absolutely nobody was brave enough to dip more than a toe or two in the water.

  1. What a gorgeous place to be bored at work, though! When I'm bored at work, I don't have nearly as nice a view. I hope you had a lovely Easter!

  5. Guess is of much satisfaction to be allowed to be “bored”. Over here, there is a “winter swimming club” and if possible members to take a dive into the sea every day.
Please have you all a wonderful Tuesday.

  7. I was a “Vigilante de la playa” (lifeguard) in the U.S. all throughout high school and college. It's an incredibly fun job. I wonder how warm it is out there? We used to be in full jackets and pants even when it was hot out because of sea breezes. Great photo!

  8. I did not know that the first governor of California was from Catalonia. About red cross guards, it has been quite fun the last part of the story.

  9. That is a pretty shot. I guess there has to be someone out there at all times, because you never know who might be willing to go in the water!

  10. The water may have been cold, but it is beautiful.
Their red garments are a nice contrast to the blue of the ocean.

  12. I'm guessing they will need to work out a lot and practice their job even in the off-season.

  15. Sounds kind of silly to keep them there during cold weather. Makes for a great blog post though. 😉

I hope you had a blessed and beautiful Easter, Rob and Mandy!

  16. I respectfully disagree with you. I don't think they were bored. If each was working alone, they would be bored.

Very interesting information on the link you posted. It is amazing to think that it took 6 days to travel by land from San Diego to Monterey. The hardships early settlers of North America endured are difficult to imagine today.
