Barcelona, a photo a day

No, not Barcelona today. This is the seamstress’s classroom at the YMCA in Andheri, a suburb of Bombay/Mumbai. Or how to learn a job when you’re a young indian girl, and get off the street. No matter what religion you are.
I was reading on the BBC website the other day that Mumbai has more child prostitutes than Bangkok. Scary.

Photo taken with an old phone.

  1. Reminds me of my first job, ironing clothes for a fashion chain back in Germany, for four Euro the hour. May time and life continue to treat those workers there kind.

  4. This reminds me of the Settlement Houses in the U.S., early twentieth century, in which girls could learn a trade that promised a degree of independence.

  6. It looks like it's more work than fun to stay at the YMCA in Andheri.
