Barcelona, a photo a day

Oh behave!

…or you can get heavily fined. As a town of almost 2 million inhabitants, Barcelona has this kind of problems as well.
More and more shops do forbid their access as well to topless tourists, even though, according to the law, you can actually be legally nude in public. Some do.
Other fact found in the news a couple of month ago, some people have been arrested after having sex in public with prostitutes, at the Boqueria market, 20 meters away from the Ramblas, the main tourist area.
It can be quite absurd… Read in the paper this morning that, if you are too noisy in Villadecans, a suburb, the fine can go up to…300.000 euros, almost half a million dollars. Guess you better whisper there!
I suppose it is just a question of common sense, respect and decency, really.

  2. How interesting and refreshingly hopeful, as it seems, as if there's nearly nothing forbidden over here … Please have a good Thursday. And yes, have proof to show that 😉

  3. I am entirely in sync with VP. We Westerners (excuse the very broad stroke) have become so narcissistic, coupled with this huge sense of entitlement, that we fail to be sensitive to other cultural and social norms. I have no issue with nudity myself, but I am shocked at the lack of respect some tourists give to their host more modest countries. Peeing in public, though, is a national past time for men in my country of residence; and THAT is an insult to the olfactory sense. 😀

  4. Good luck in actually collecting those fines from people, especially if they are tourists.

When I lived in Barcelona, urinating in the streets was a huge issue, and while I was there the government finall cracked down on people letting their dogs poop without picking it up.

  5. VP

The problem is not about the rules and how these are enforced, but the complete lack of education, basic respect for the others and even common sense in so many people that are now able to travel.

  9. I don't remember seeing signs like that when we were in Barcelona. And I'm glad we didn't talk too loudly in Villadecans (my husband is becoming hard of hearing). The signs made me laugh, and I'm particularly surprised that they should find the first one necessary.
