Sunday Bridges

Well, is it or is it not the Golden Gate Bridge???
No, it is not. This is the Ponte 25 de Abril, formerly known as Salazar Bridge. This is the bridge between the municipalities of Almada and Lisbon, in Portugal. Just spent a few days there.
Well, it looks a lot like San Francisco, wouldn’t you say? This bridge was built by the same company (American Bridge Company) that constructed the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge and not the Golden Gate, also explaining its similarity in design. With a total length of 2,277 m, it is the 20th largest suspension bridge in the world. The upper platform carries six car lanes, the lower platform two train tracks. Thank you, Wikipedia.

This, of course is for our man in Frisco, Monsieur Louis la Vache himself, and for his Sunday Bridges meme. Click here to see more fantastic bridge photos. Maybe we’ll be enough people to play a game of bridge…

And this below is the Golden Gate Bridge. A certain similarity, did you say?

  3. An impressive capture of an impressive bridge… and yes, I agree, on fast glance it would be forgivable to mistake this Ponte 25 de Abril for the iconic GGB.
