Thanks to JM for the title!

Sardana

The sardana is a type of circular dance typical of Catalunya. The dance was originally from the Empordà region, but started gaining popularity throughout Catalunya during the 20th century. When you walk through Barcelona on any holiday, be it religious or not, you’ll almost automatically come across some groups of people dancing. And several statues across town celebrate it. This iron one is on the Fundacio Fran Daurel, in the Poble Espanyol, by Manuel Alvarez.

Dancing in the light…

Having very little time and energy to browsing your blogs, or commenting on them, at the moment. But I have a 3 days weekend coming up, will try to catch up then.

Theme of the month: perspective

Callin’ out around the world, are you ready for a brand new beat?
Summer’s here and the time is right for dancin’ in the street.
Dancin’ in Chicago (dancin’ in the street)
Down in New Orleans (dancin’ in the street)
In New York City

All we need is music, sweet music,
There’ll be music everywhere
There’ll be swingin’ swayin’, and records playin,
Dancin’ in the street

Oh it doesn’t matter what you wear, just as long as you are there.
So come on every guy, grab a girl,
Everywhere, around the world

There’ll be dancin’, they’re dancin’ in the street.
This is an invitation, across the nation,
A chance for folks to meet.
There’ll be laughin’ singin’, and music swingin’
Dancin’ in the street

Barcelona, Baltimore and D.C now,
Can’t forget the motor city,
All we need is music, sweet music
There’ll be music everywhere
There’ll be swingin’ swayin’, and records playin,
Dancin’ in the street

Oh it doesn’t matter what you wear, just as long as you are there.
So come on every guy, grab a girl,
Everywhere, around the world

They’re dancin’, dancin’ in the street
Way down in L.A., every day they’re dancin’ in the street
Lets form a big strong line, and get in time,
We’re dancin’ in the street.
Across the ocean blue, me and you
We’re dancin n the street

Being young? Just a matter of perspective! Perspective: this month’s theme day!

You can’t top the Lindy Hop!

One of the nicer things to do here on a grey sunday is to swing. Everyday 1st and 3rd sunday of the month, a big gang of aficionados gather at the bandstand at the entrance of Ciutadella Park, near the fountain, for 2 hours of swing, Charleston, bop, and of course, the Lindy Hop.

And if it gets too crowded in the bandstand, you can always do it just outside!

And there are many schools where you can learn it!

Flamenco!

Lots of Andalous “immigrants” here in northern Spain, mainly for economic reasons. Therefore, you can learn the flamenco pretty much everywhere, and I love it!
