Let’s go out for the day… Many fantastic places you can reach easily from BCN, one being Lisbon.

Andorra, the only real catalan country.

In Gaudi’s shadow

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

What is your bedside reading right now? I am in some good old sci fi, Ark, by Stephen Baxter.

More b&w here.

Ouch!

A right royal place

One of the side entrances to the Plaza Real, the royal square, one of the jewels of Barcelona, just off the Ramblas. There is a youth hostel on the square, the Kabul youth hostel, where I used to stay many years ago, when I was just another tourist in town. Happy days!

Zest, part 2

Followers of this blog will know that I like bright colors and Harleys. As I decided to carry on blogging about Barcelona, I will take a more artistic route, with less HDR and maybe less colors.
Anyway, here are some happy HOGs, full of zest!

B and W weekend

Black and white Skywatch Friday

The Plaza Real in Barcelona is an absolutely beautiful square, in any weather or time of day/night. Here it is in monochrome, for Skywatch Friday and Dragonstar’s Weekend in Black and White.

The street lamps on the side were designed by Antonio Gaudi himself.

Weekend Reflections

More from Horta, the park with the amazing maze.

More Weekend Reflections, right here.

Monochrome 4

The park in Horta. Once again, the weekend is black and white!

Weekend in black and white: gone fishing

It is the weekend, and I might do just this… Ah, who am I kidding, I wont have the time to do it!

One I made before…

…in January, at the Catalan Circus Raluy. I only turned the photo into black and white, no other treatment or mistreatment.

Feel it!

Wordless Wednesday

The golden ant

La Formiga d’ or, or golden ant, is one of the nicer bookshops in town. We just love the place, being giant bookworms. There are 2 of them in town, one in the cathedral’s cloister, and one nearby. Both have a very medieval feel. What’s your favorite bookshop like?

The weekend in black and white.

Balloons?

A rest for the eyes, after so many colors in the Palau.
This is what I saw just outside the Palau. Don’t know what was the occasion, but a belated happy something to you!

Check here to see more artworks for the Weekend in Black and White.

Zanahoria…

… means carrot. Enjoy today’s special: carrot cupcakes!

The weekend is black and white!

And here are the same in colors.

Our world tuesday

Seagulls. Plenty of them around. Definitely part of our world!

Our World Tuesday.

I have very little time at the moment, can’t browse your blogs as much as I would like to. Will be back soon-ish.

I love my dog!

As Cat Stevens would say. And we love our cat!

Click here for the Weekend in Black and White.

Monochrome 2

The statue in front of the Catalan Parliament in Ciutadella Park, for Dragonstar’s Weekend in Black and White and for James’s Weekend Reflections.

Waiting

Weekend in black and white, right here.

Walking the curve

Nice effect found in one of my programs. This is for Dragonstar’s Weekend in Black and White.

Walking down the Ramblas…

… is always a great pleasure, watching people, street entertainers, animals, flowers… Haven’t done it much lately, too cold, too tired, too busy… Any reason. Got a foot problem right now, quite painful, so I’m not going out much lately, just to work. Anyway, now that the nice spring days are coming back, will try doing it a bit more.
Oh yeah: got a thing for cacti!

The circus

A black and white rendition of the circus we went to a few weeks ago, for Dragonstar’s Weekend in Black and White.

Plaza de España

A monochrome view over Montjuic, the fairgrounds, the 2 venitian towers and the Olympic Torch, for Dragonstar’s Weekend in Black and White.

CCCB

The entrance to the CCCB, Center for Contemporary Culture in Barcelona.

Santa Eulalia’s geese

Barcelona’s holy patron is Saint Eulalia, also called Laia. She was a geese shepherdess in the village of Sarria, now a part of Barcelona. She was a martyr, was killed for her faith by the Romans, says her hagiography.
Nowadays, the cathedral in the old town is named after her. And in the cloister are living 13 geese. Why 13? Eulalia was 13 when she became a martyr.

Due to some spam comments lately, I had to change the settings a bit. No anonymous comments allowed for the time being, just as a protective measure. And because it’s really annoying.

Monochrome 2

The very pretty town of Sitges, 35 km south of Barcelona.

Black and White Weekend Reflections

Some university buildings in the Raval. James’s weekly Weekend Reflections meme is right here! And Dragonstar’s Weekend in Black and White, here.

It’s the weekend!

As the weather is very nice, 20 degrees (68 F), sun, I went to a short walk in the park, with my camera.

Please click here to see more black and white pictures, and here to see James’s Weekend Reflections.

Caixaforum

I am stuck at home for a while, so here is one more archive photo, the entrance of the Caixaforum museum of modern art.

This is for Dragonstar’s Weekend in Black and White.

Black and White Skywatch Friday

OK, a few ‘trade secrets’. I took 3 photos, with a 0,7 bracket (with 0,7 dioptries difference between each photo). Ideally, these photos should be taken with your camera on a tripod, but it works if you’re really steady.
Passed the photos through a HDR program, Photomatix Pro, version 4.1. Tonemapped it, changed it into black and white using Picasa, worked a bit with saturation and shades. Et voila!

All this for 2 of my favorite weekly memes, Skywatch Friday and the Weekend in Black and White.

Plaza de Espana

A black and white view from the Avenida Maria Cristina, the fairgrounds, the venitian towers, the MNAC (catalan national art musuem) and the Olympic Torch, dating back to 1992.

Dragonstar, this is for you and your wonderful black and white weekend meme! And also for Jame’s weekend reflections, as there are some reflections in the building on the left.

Barcelona, 2011

Yes, April 2011 in Barcelona. The guy is sharpening knives and scissors with the machine on the back of his bike, in Gracia.
My Weekend in Black and White.

Black and white Port Vell

The Port Vell, or Old Port of Barcelona, with the ferry terminal and the World Trade Center.

Black and white weekend reflection

This is not an easy picture. It was taken at the Forum building, which is a paradise and a nightmare for photographers, all at the same time, with it’s unlikely shapes, and with so many reflective materials.
Well, have fun trying to make sense of it! It probably helps if you make it bigger.
This is for Dragonstar’s Black and White Weekend in Ireland, and James’s (formerly from Newtown) Weekend Reflection meme.

After reflection (…), here is a color version of the same shot. Might help.

Monochrome

Sitges, yesterday afternoon. This is for the Weekend in Black and White meme.
